Lucy is an avid outdoor enthusiast who loves cycling up hills just for the fun of it and she’s deeply passionate about animal welfare. Mick, who loves Lucy, eagerly supported her idea to take on an incredible challenge – cycling from London to Southend on July 6th to raise funds for the RSPCA Essex Mid and North Branch.

Lucy has already been busy fundraising for our charity, which is independently registered and separate from the national RSPCA. She knows that we rely on our own efforts to raise vital funds for rescuing and rehabilitating animals in our community. Every year, we run two veterinary clinics providing essential care to over 4,000 animals whose owners are facing financial hardship.

In 2025, the challenges for charities like ours have grown even tougher, but Lucy – and now Mick – are determined to make a difference. Both have signed up for this demanding event, where they’ll ride 52 miles (84 km) through potentially hot weather. Lucy has set herself a fundraising goal of £520 to support our local animal welfare work.

Will you support them? Follow their journey with updates and photos on our social media as they train and on event day. If you’re out and about, keep an eye out for Lucy and Mick in their bright yellow cycling tops featuring our blue and red logo. You can also leave them messages of encouragement on our social media pages to keep their spirits high throughout the challenge

Most importantly, please consider making a donation. Your support will directly benefit animals in need and inspire Lucy to push through – even when the road goes uphill.
