On 4th April 2025, five fearless women from Essex, along with their trusty mascot Percy the toy cat, will embark on an incredible walking challenge to raise vital funds for local animals in need.

Alex, Anna, Ayla, Helen, and Rose—five dedicated veterinary professionals—are putting aside their wellies and raincoats and heading to sunny Spain to conquer the legendary El Camino trail.

Over four days, they’ll tackle a gruelling 111km trek through stunning landscapes, all in support of RSPCA Essex Mid and North.

But these intrepid women aren’t walking alone. Accompanying them is Percy, a small toy cat who will serve as their mascot! Together, they’ll form the Cinco Amigas as they take on this challenging adventure for a cause close to their hearts.

Follow Their Journey: Training in Essex and the Camino Ahead

We’ll be sharing updates of the team’s training journey across the beautiful—if sometimes damp—countryside of North Essex. Expect to see behind-the-scenes glimpses of their preparation as they lace up their boots and get ready to take on the Camino de Santiago, one of the most famous pilgrimage routes in the world.

Once they hit the trail in Spain, we’ll be providing daily updates on social media, tracking their progress and celebrating every step they take toward their goal.

A Challenging Yet Rewarding Journey

The Cinco Amigas have set themselves a bold target: complete the 111km walk in just four days, despite the blistering heat and challenging terrain.

Their fundraising goal is £1,111—one pound for every kilometre they conquer. This will go a long way to supporting the essential work of the RSPCA Essex Mid and North, helping us rescue and care for vulnerable animals in the local community.
