At RSPCA Essex Mid & North Branch, our passion for animal welfare drives everything we do. Behind every happy wagging tail and every rescued animal finding its forever home, there’s a team of extraordinary individuals working tirelessly to make it happen.

Our experienced veterinary professionals provide essential care and treatment to animals in need, ensuring they receive the best possible medical attention and a second chance at life. Alongside them, our shop managers and volunteers play a pivotal role by managing charity shops and organising fundraising events, which are vital in supporting our mission and funding our work.

Together, we form a strong, passionate network united by a shared goal – improving the lives of animals and creating a better future for them. We are proud of the work we do and deeply grateful for the continued support of our community. Every adoption, donation, and volunteer hour helps us make a meaningful difference.

Anna

Branch Manager

My whole career has been animal based since I left school. I spent 18 years working as a veterinary nurse. I have spent 12 years doing many animal charity events overseas on my holidays with other veterinary professionals and making the move to the charity sector to aid animal welfare on a full-time basis just felt like the perfect path for me to follow. I live with 3 cats that keep me entertained.

Derrick

Income Generation Manager

I’ve worked in the charity sector most of my life including Help the Aged, Anchor Trust and 10 years with the National RSPCA, I joined the Branch October 2020 as the Retail Manager overseeing the activity of the three existing shops and opening new ones along the way.

I absolutely love working with the staff, volunteers, and trustees here as it is such a positive team, and we deliver such fantastic animal welfare through our clinics and the rehoming activities.

I am proud that all profits we make through retail and income generation goes directly to this charitable work. A significant part of my job is devoted to promoting our work, through social media, talking to groups of adults and presenting at school assemblies.

When I’m not dreaming up the next way of making more money for the animals, I love playing guitar, football, keeping fit, and in recent times have learned a bit of ballroom & Latin dance. No doubt, I’ll try to bring these aspects into a fundraising event someday.

Karen

Finance Assistant

I’m Karen. I live in Halstead and work part time, as the Finance assistant.
I’ve worked for RSPCA Mid & North Branch since June 2024 and work mainly from home.
When I am not working my time is spent being involved in lots of music projects, usually in Musical Theatre or playing the violin.

Nicola

Veterinary Clinic Manager

Hi! I’m Nicola, I have recently joined the RSPCA as the Clinic Manager. I am passionate about animal welfare and look forward to being part of the team.
I started my career as a Veterinary Nurse in 2001 and have worked in various settings including some charity work abroad.
In my spare time I spend time with my two boys, walk my dog Charlie, teach line dancing and paint pet portraits.

Louise

Head Receptionist

I have been involved with the Colchester Branch of the North Essex RSPCA since 2009 and I have been working at the clinic as receptionist since 2014. You will often speak to me if you phone the clinic.

I have 4 dogs (all adopted through the Branch) and enjoy nothing more than being at home with them.

Megan

Veterinary Surgeon

When I was seven, I announced I wanted to be a vet.  The stars were aligned and I graduated from Cambridge in 2001. After private practice in Oxfordshire and Essex, I joined RSPCA North Essex in 2012. I enjoy small animal practice. My only hope is that I can be a good GP!

My family live in Suffolk, with a cat or two (or three) in our house. We also keep pet chickens. When I am not in the clinic, you will either find me cooking up a storm in my kitchen, or pottering in my garden, usually with a cat at my side.

Alannah

Veterinary Nurse

My name is Alannah and I have been working within the veterinary profession since 2010. I have had the pleasure of working with a range of animals which includes large and small animals, zoo animals and exotics. I consider my approach as animal focused and work hard to ensure their health and well-being.

Kerry

Volunteer Receptionist

My name is Kerry, and I have been a volunteer at the RSPCA Mid and North Essex branch for approximately 6yrs.

I started out volunteering for one day a week at the clinic on reception and doing home visits to people wanting to adopt an animal from us. After a year, I then was able to commit to volunteering at the clinic 3 days a week, which I still do now.

My main responsibilities include, reception work answering calls, checking on emails, filing, assisting the vet and nurse where needed, checking medications amongst other things. I like to be part of the RSPCA team, and it makes me happy knowing we are doing all we can to help the animals.

Dawn

Veterinary Surgeon

I qualified as a Vet from the Royal Veterinary College in 2011 and have worked at the Chelmsford clinic since 2014.

I have recently completed a 3 year certificate in small animal medicine and have a particular interest in feline medicine and teaching vet students.

I currently have four cats of my own, all of which are rescues, taken home from work “temporarily”!

Louise

Veterinary Surgeon

I graduated from the University of Bristol in 2024 and work as a small animal vet with a particular interest in diagnostic imaging. I also enjoy working in aquatic veterinary medicine.

At home, I have a mini zoo of my own, including cats, ferrets, tortoises, sheep, horses, and fish, which keep me busy when I’m not in practice!

I’m passionate about providing high-quality care and helping pet owners make informed decisions to ensure the best outcomes for their animals.

Hannah

Veterinary Nurse

I started working in the veterinary industry in 1998 and went on to study and qualify as a Registered Veterinary nurse.

After working at various small animal clinics I came to work at the RSPCA in 2023. I love meeting and getting to know our clients and their pets and endeavour to make their visits to the clinic as stress free as possible

Sian

Maldon Shop Manager

Most of my early career was spent working in the NHS in and around London for 17 years, which I very much enjoyed.

However, when I had my children, I chose to
venture into my real passion, the charity sector. Whilst my family were young, I found volunteering allowed me to meet new people and gain new skills. This led onto me getting my first position with the RSPCA in 2021 in the brand-new Maldon shop.

Getting to meet our wonderful community and integrating ourselves into the local high street was such an amazing experience, all whilst raising much need funds to support the brilliant clinics and all the animals within our branch.

Tara

Prettygate Shop Manager

I’ve worked for the RSPCA since August 2010. I work with an amazing team in the retail charity sector raising as much money as we can to help animals in our area. I love the work I do and of course, I love animals.

I have a German Shepherd myself who loves lots of cuddles, swimming and tug tugs with his favourite squeaky toy.

Sallee

Frinton Shop Manager

I was fortunate enough to be offered this position at Frinton Charity shop in June 2024 and it is wonderful to work with such a positive dedicated team. I have always worked in Retail, Hospitality or Childcare and now I work for this fabulous charity.

I am passionate about the work RSPCA Essex Mid and North Branch do and the funds we raise to help all the animals in our care. We have fantastic volunteers, staff, customers and donors who all share the same
commitment and enthusiasm to help this incredible charity raise vital funds for sick, injured and neglected animals.

When I am not here at the shop, I am at home with my two adorable cats,  one of whom thinks is a parrot as you can see from the photo!
