About Our Branch
About Us
As one of the 150 independent branches of the RSPCA, we are deeply committed to making a lasting difference for animals in our community. Each branch is a separate charity, but we all follow the same RSPCA policies and guidelines, working together with one shared mission – to protect and care for animals in need.
Much of the direct animal welfare work of the RSPCA is carried out through local branches like ours, which are run by passionate volunteers dedicated to improving the lives of animals. We rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome animals through our clinics, animal centres, and boarding and fostering facilities, giving them the second chance they deserve.
We work at the heart of the community across North and Mid Essex, focusing on the needs of our local community. Every penny we raise through donations, fundraising events and our charity shops goes directly to helping animals in our area.
From providing expert advice and essential services like microchipping and neutering to offering subsidised treatments and finding loving new homes for local animals, we ensure that every animal receives the care, attention, and second chance they deserve.
Together, with your support, we are giving hope to animals across Essex and ensuring they receive the love and compassion they need to thrive

Our Area
Our area extends from the Suffolk border at Manningtree running down the coast including Clacton and Harwich to Maldon and Bradwell, across to Brentwood and up through Chelmsford and Great Dunmow to the Suffolk border at Bures.
We work tirelessly to promote responsible pet ownership through initiatives like microchipping and neutering campaigns.
To report cruelty and neglect please contact the National Cruelty Line on 0300 1234 999. Alternatively, follow the link below if you would like guidance and advice.
Our Shops
Our three charity shops, located in Frinton-on-Sea, Colchester, and Maldon, play a vital role in raising funds for the animals in our care. By shopping with us or donating pre-loved items, you’re directly contributing to the welfare of neglected and homeless animals, helping them receive the care they need to find their forever homes. Every purchase and donation makes a meaningful difference. Visit one of our shops today to discover great items and support a worthy cause!
Our Welfare Clinics
We operate two welfare clinics in Colchester and Chelmsford, providing access to reduced-cost veterinary treatment for pet owners on a low income.
Eligibility for this service requires owners to live within our branch area and receive certain state benefits. By offering affordable veterinary care, we’re helping to promote responsible pet ownership and improve the well-being of animals in our community.
Rehoming
We frequently have dogs, cats, and kittens available for adoption, typically through our trusted partners at Danaher Animal Home in Wethersfield. In addition to animals from our branch, Danaher also cares for pets from other local RSPCA branches. They offer a wide variety of animals for adoption, including smaller pets such as rabbits and guinea pigs.
By adopting, you’re giving a deserving animal the loving forever home they’ve been waiting for. Visit Danaher Animal Home to see the wonderful animals currently available and find your perfect companion!
Education and Awareness
We are passionate about spreading awareness and promoting responsible pet ownership through educational events. Our team organises engaging talks with local groups and schools to inspire compassion and educate the community about animal welfare.
If you would like to arrange a talk for your group or school, we’d be delighted to hear from you. Please contact us to make a request and help us share the importance of kindness and care for all animals.

National RSPCA
The National RSPCA was the first charity to introduce a law to protect animals and continues to work tirelessly to ensure that all animals can live free from pain and suffering.
Through impactful campaigns, they raise awareness of animal welfare issues and advocate for higher standards of care. Their investigations and prosecutions send a strong, clear message: animal abuse will not be tolerated.
Highly trained officers play a crucial role, tackling neglect and cruelty at every level to protect animals and hold those who harm them accountable. Together, their efforts help create a safer, kinder world for animals everywhere.
